An Interview with Angela Hunt
Glen Eyrie: Hi Angela! Thanks for representing the teaching team for this year's writers' conference. Could you share a little bit about what this year's conference will focus on?
Angela Hunt: We are delighted to be back! There's no place in the world like Glen Eyrie, and no conference like this one. We bring in four teachers who love to teach . . . and let them bond with their students during the entire time. There's no popping in and out of class, no having to dress up for editors, no worrying about appointments with agents. Just learning and writing, laughing and praying . . . it's one of our favorite conferences of the year.
GE: What specifically sets this conference apart from other writers' conferences?
AH: Our big distinctive is that ours is a WRITING WORKSHOP, where people sign on with an instructor and spend the time actually learning and writing and polishing. All of our instructors listen to what their students want to know, and then we do our best to answer those questions and work on those areas. All of our four teachers have written in several areas--fiction, nonfiction, juvenile, screenplays--so we've gathered years of experience we're eager to share with you.
At the beginning, we teachers will explain our areas of expertise and our teaching methods, then we invite people along for the journey. So they'll "team up" with a teacher and spend most of the time with that teacher, except for morning sessions where we give encouraging "keynote-style" addresses, and evenings, when we have more fun, interactive activities with the entire group. We've found that this encourages bonding and close fellowship among the group. We've seen some lasting friendships develop from this conference.
Attendees should bring an open mind and heart, and something to write on--computer, Alphasmart, or even pen and paper. If you have a work in progress, bring it with you.
GE: Who do you consider your main audience for this conference?
AH: Adults and older teens who are interested in honing their writing gifts. Beginners or advanced writers are welcome and should find plenty to enhance their skills.
GE: Why are you passionate about this subject?
AH: Each member of our team—Nancy Rue, Kathryn Mackel, James Scott Bell, and yours truly—are dedicated writers and teachers. We’ve been doing both for more years than we care to count.
GE: What are two things you want attendees to take away from this conference?
AH: A heart open to the Spirit’s leading and a mind capable of completing the task.
GE: Sharing your writing with others can be a pretty personal experience. Here's a question that will kick off that sharing attitude! What's one thing in your day-to-day life that is normal for you but is probably pretty unusual for most people?
AH: I live with two 200-pound dogs. When we move from room to room, it’s like herding bears!
GE: Thanks so much, Angela! We look forward to another excellent writers' conference from you, Jim, Nancy and Kathy this summer!

2009 Writer’s Summit Student Comments
“This is my third year at this conference. Every year, it literally is life-changing. Sometimes they are big changes; sometimes small, but always there is something that sticks with me all year. The growth comes, not just in my writing, but in my spiritual and emotional life.”
“This is the third year I have come to this conference, and the great blessing this year has been to observe how God has grown me as a writer in the past two years. Two years ago I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that I could not write a novel. That novel is now well on the way to completion and I find the phrase “the next book” creeping into my conversation.” – S. Plett
“The hosts, Angie, Nancy, Kathy, & Al were so kind, encouraging, and just amazing! This was, by far, the best writing conference I’ve ever attended. I feel so encouraged and built up, and can’t wait to come back next year.” – A. Farnworth
“The Lord surrounded me with wonderful affirmation, intellectual challenges, comfort, and beauty. Coming to this conference was planned for me years, even decades ago. The quality of this conference was unsurpassed in meeting me exactly where I was and taking me to a new place.” – F. Phillips
“This is my third writer’s conference here and I have never been disappointed. It’s so wonderful to leave my stress-filled life for a few days here.” – C. Sherrow
“This was my first writing conference ever, so I have heard stories of what to expect; however, this workshop was so much more helpful and encouraging than I hoped it would be. All of the instructors were open and available. They were willing and able to help me with my writing.” – A. Field
“Angela Hunt’s workshops were spot on for my needs. I was touched when I learned I was prayed for by name when I registered. As another attendee asked, ‘Was Jesus here with you this week?’ YES!” – J. Nelson
