RETREAT OVERVIEW

When you come, you can expect to hear more than philosophies and more than a list of the “fifty ways to romance your spouse.” I will lay out the principals of mutual submission in marriage, and how God expects us to lead as men in our marriages. It will be practical and simple, but extremely liberating and encouraging. Many marriages turn around on a dime simply by applying the principle of mutual submission (Ephesians 5:21).
From Shannon…
You can expect a very “balanced” approach to the topic of marriage & intimacy because you have both a man and a woman speaking over the weekend. As we all know, men and women approach relationships, marriage, and sexual intimacy very differently, so Fred and I will each bring our own unique perspectives into the event. Neither gender will be belittled or bashed. Men will be affirmed as men, women will be affirmed as women and, marriages will be strengthened as a result!

My passion never wanes, because this content is central to everything I've become as a man, a husband, a father and a Christian. The Lord saved my bacon early in marriage, when my wife leveled her finger at me one morning and simply said, "I don't know how to say this, so I'm just going to tell it to you straight...my feelings for you are dead!" My wife and I recently celebrated twenty-eight years of spectacular marriage, if I do say so myself! How did we get from there to here? I can't wait to share it with you.

It was only 7 years into our marriage that I approached Greg crying, "You just don't meet my emotional needs anymore!" Sadly, I was seriously considering leaving him (and my two very young children) in pursuit of the "love" I felt entitled to. Fortunately Greg saw past my weaknesses, recognized my genuine needs, and spoke the truth in love about how I was expecting him to be something that only GOD could be in my life. He was right. As I've looked to Jesus Christ as my Heavenly Bridegroom, I've been able to take the burden of responsibility off Greg's shoulders to be my all-in-all, and both my spiritual life and marriage are much richer for it. Although I failed miserably at "requiring" intimacy from my husband, I've learned to be very successful at "inspiring" it, and I want to help other wives do the same. Greg and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary the week of the retreat!
