Having been created in the image of God, we too are creators! Our lives are meant to glorify God and to impact the world we live in, bringing the love of the of Jesus to the lives of the people in our communities. For many of us, we have discovered the Arts and in them we have discovered our mission in this world, to worship and proclaim Jesus in the beauty of the creative.
Come together with singers, songwriters, authors, dancers, musicians, painters and artists who seek to shape their craft and soul through continued professional and spiritual development. The Scribbling in the Sand retreat is designed for all artists who embrace their place in this world, living their days and leaving a legacy, pointing the world to the cross.
Developed in part on Michael Card's book, Scribbling in the Sand, this retreat will give you the opportunity to:
- Embrace the source of your inspiration--the creativity embodied in Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word of God.
- Explore the biblical foundations of true Christian creativity.
- Realize that all of us are created in the image of our Creator God, and thus creativity is a vital expression of our discipleship.
- Follow Jesus, understanding that God's creative imagination leads to a lifestyle of humility, obedience and servanthood.
- Fellowship and worship with God's creative community.
Through Jesus, God has spoken to us in a word we can understand. Likewise, Michael Card has articulated the story of Jesus to others through his own scribblings in the sand. This retreat shows us how we can do the same.
Who should attend? This retreat is well suited for:
- Worship Leaders and Teams
- Authors, Writers, Bloggers

OUR RETREAT LEADERS
In a career that spans 30 years, Michael Card never imagined selling more than 4 million albums or writing over 19 #1 hits. The popularity of his work seemed a stark contrast to his goal in life, to simply and quietly teach the Bible.
Although music provided him the opportunity to share insight gained through extensive research, writing 3-minute songs alone limited what he felt called to share. And so he fell, quite naturally, into the field of book writing.
Never one to compartmentalize his spiritual life, Card’s quest for community slowly seeped into his professional life as he began to write articles and books on topics that captured his imagination through conversations with Bible teachers, friends and contemporaries in both Christian music and the academic community.
In everything he does, Card seeks to encourage his audience to join in his own journey to know and be known by God by asking questions and entering into meaningful discussion with one another. Card’s vision is to edify the body of Christ around the world by sharing experiences and resources in the context of community in order to help facilitate the growth of smaller and more intimate communities within his audience’s own churches and neighborhoods.
To that end, Card has branched out beyond the music which made his name known within the Christian community into the various mediums he uses today; another reason why Card sees the importance of continuing to teach at conference centers like Glen Eyrie.
Whether it’s through his writings, concerts, or teaching, the core of what binds these seemingly diverse endeavors together is biblical community. It is at the heart of everything Michael Card does.
“The one thing we strive to achieve is to reach people where they are,” explains Card. “whether it’s my work or the work of someone else, there is a greater chance of reaching more people, who in turn will reach out to others in their own community.”

Phil Keaggy fans range from those who aspire just to be able to play his music, to professional musicians who have been strongly influenced by his style. And in between are those who don't play guitar, yet find solace in his beautifully penned lyrics and memorable melodies.
Phil's solo career has spanned more than 30 years, and has included over 50 solo albums, both vocal and instrumental, as well as 8 releases with his band, Glass Harp.
Phil spent most of his younger days involved in music, and at the young age of 13, he joined his very first band. By 1972, Phil saw his life going in a different direction, and made the tough decision to leave Glass Harp and pursue a solo career. His first solo album, "What A Day", was recorded in just a week's time during January 1973. He married his sweetheart Bernadette that summer, and the following year, they moved to Upstate New York and joined a Church community called Love Inn.
With the Christian Music industry really beginning to grow, Phil won his very first Dove award in 1988 for his instrumental album, “The Wind and the Wheat. Phil's second Dove Award came in 1992 for his Celtic-influenced, "Beyond Nature". Each year from 1998 to 2001, Phil has dominated the "Instrumental Record" category at the Doves, winning for "Invention", "Acoustic Sketches", "Majesty and Wonder", and most recently "Lights of Madrid". For three years in a row, Phil was voted one of the top fingerstyle guitarists by Guitar Player Magazine readers.
These days, Phil Keaggy continues to delight audiences all over the US performing primarily acoustic shows, and occasional concerts with a band. He is aware that God gave him a calling to deliver the Gospel through his music, and for over 30 years, Phil Keaggy has been grateful to do just that, and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come.
